ABSTRACT

This chapter explains building energy code compliance using a performance-based path which provides more design freedom and can lead to innovative designs. A performance-based path involves more complex energy simulations and trade-offs between systems. Larger commercial buildings that have multiple systems or varied uses and loads may find it more advantageous to follow a performance-based path for code compliance. In this chapter, in all tutorials (except Tutorial 14.19), no simulations are performed and only the modeling requirements are described. This chapter also describes a method for automating baseline building model creation for checking of compliance with ASHRAE Standard 90.1–2010.
