ABSTRACT

Wrestlers should be training for “Maximal Power Output”, “Entire Match Wrestling Power Output”, and “Flexibility”. Training for “Maximal Power Output” requires training for maximal strength while training for “Entire Match Wrestling Power Output” requires training for maximal strength, anaerobic capacity, and critical power. Anaerobic capacity can be built by training for maximal strength, and performing anaerobic intervals lasting about 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Critical power, the maximal ability to generate energy by aerobic means, can be stimulated by aerobic intervals lasting 5–10 minutes long at a high exercise intensity (85%–95% of VO2max) and by performing long slow-distance training.
