ABSTRACT

The major change that occurs after the wrestler’s competitive career is a reduction in energy output as practices have ceased. This results in weight gain if the former athlete does not reduce energy intake or partake in regular physical activity. Clearly, some weight gain is probable, and in many former wrestlers, a considerable weight gain is probable. Taking up a regular physical activity in the years after the competitive career and eating prudently are remedies to such weight gain. Other interventions could be behavioral or psychological as the attachment of food is probable as a result of times of extreme deprivation during their wrestling career.
