ABSTRACT

Spent garnet, having a large proportion of reactive and inert materials, can form crystalline phases in the presence of irregular structures with high specific surface areas, as revealed in the X-ray diffusion (XRD) patterns. The chemical composition of spent garnet reveals high silica, alumina, and iron contents. The leaching behavior of spent garnet is within the acceptable limits. Moreover, spent garnet material is recommended as a well-graded fine aggregate appropriate for self-compacting geopolymer concrete (SCGPC) manufacturing. The fineness modulus of spent garnet is slightly lower than the recommended minimum value.
