ABSTRACT

This chapter describes several Excel spreadsheets that facilitate the evaluation of material efficiency for a single reaction in an effortless automated fashion. The flash-chromatography-mass intensity-template spreadsheet determines the E-factor contribution from solvents used in flash chromatographic procedures during the purification phase of a chemical reaction according to a method described in 2016. An alternative reaction to making biaryl compounds by the Suzuki coupling reaction is to couple aryl iodonium ions to tetraphenylborate. The reaction employs a proline derived organocatalyst in order to carry out the stereoselective reaction. The reaction can also be quenched by directly putting the reaction mixture on a silica-gel column. The crude aldol product was purified by silica-gel column chromatography to furnish the desired aldol product.
