ABSTRACT

John Cutter likes to use S.D.I. as an example of the power of graphics in games: “We had already completed a version of S.D.I., but after seeing the graphics Jim Sachs did in Defender of the Crown, we realized we wanted better art. We hired professional artists and redid all the graphics. A month later, we got a new version back from Sculptured Software, who

was programming the game. We were convinced that they had made all kinds of changes to the gameplay, but it turned out that they had not. It was just the improved graphics and some sound additions that made the game much, much better.”
