ABSTRACT
The first part of Chapter 9 deals with the hardware aspects of multimedia storage, including magnetic and optical storage media and their advantages and disadvantages, file systems, scanners and charged-coupled devices (CCDs). Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is also discussed. Searching and indexing in multimedia databases are introduced.
