ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book analyses general sediment phenomena in silt-dominated coasts, presents field observations in northwestern Caofeidian sea area of Bohai Bay, China, as well as other field data collection. It presents laboratory experimental data analysis and theoretical analysis to study the incipient motion of silt-sand. The book describes a process based intra-wave 1DV model to simulate the flow-sediment dynamics near the bed bottom in combined wave-current conditions, in particular the high concentration layer in wave-dominated conditions. In wave-dominated conditions, the turbulence is restricted in the bottom boundary layer, which is one of the reasons of the HCL formation. Sensitivity analysis was carried out by the 1DV model on the factors impacting the high concentration layer, such as bed forms, flow dynamics, and effects of stratification and mobile bed.
