ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of what types of things occur during the execution phase, including project reviews and postmortems, managing feature creep, setting up a process for compiling game builds, and submitting the game to the rating boards. The development pipeline is the series of steps that are followed to actually get assets and code working together in a playable version of the game. The established development plan is compared with the game’s actual development progress to determine if it is running behind or ahead of schedule. The Quality Assurance department usually uses design documentation when writing the test plan. Usually, postmortems are conducted at the end of the game development cycle because they provide closure to the process. Software rating boards are important to understand as they regulate ratings for game content. There are a lot of plates spinning when the team is fully executing the plan.
