ABSTRACT

QA testing occurs throughout the development process, and it is more than just playing the game to see if it’s fun. Testing is a stressful and difficult job as testers are the last round of defense before the game is released to the players. Avoid confusing this with UX testing, which has a different purpose. This chapter provides a general overview of testing, from a production point of view, and touches on the types of testing and test plans, and how to track and resolve bugs. For more information on QA testing and how to do it, take a look at a book called Game Testing All-in-One, by Charles P. Schultz and Robert Denton Bryant. The producer and QA lead work closely together to ensure that the development team and QA team are in sync on what areas of the game are ready to be tested, which bugs have been fixed, and any changes or updates to the schedule.
