ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to understand the common mistakes a problem-solver makes and how to move beyond these in order to succeed in following the life cycle of the problem-solving journey. A unified approach is explained that will greatly help to reduce variation-inducing parameters. Here, the focus is on problem characteristics and the general philosophy of problem-solving. Several sections of the chapter discuss how to apply techniques and manage mistakes. In addition, the characteristics of a problem-solver are also identified, specifically those skills and competencies that are vital for successful problem-solving.
