ABSTRACT

The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) was established by the Second International Congress of Radiology in 1928. Since its inception, the ICRP has been the one internationally recognized body responsible for recommending safety standards for radiation protection. It must be emphasized that the ICRP recommendations do not have any direct force of law. However, in most countries of the world, the national legislation relating to exposure to radiation is based on the recommendations of the ICRP.
