ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 is composed of a minimal background on orbit dynamics and properties which are focused on two body systems. Section 2.1 is about orbit dynamics. Section 2.2 discusses conic section and different orbits whose trajectories are related to the curves in a conic section. This section considers three most seen orbits and related parameters associated with these orbits, namely circular orbits, elliptic orbits, and hyperbolic orbits. Section 2.3 talks about the properties of the Keperian orbits, which can be expressed in a plane. Section 2.4 is a representation of the Keperian orbits in three-dimensional space. Celestial inertial coordinate system is introduced here and orbit parameters, such as the semi-major axis, the eccentricity, the inclination, the right ascension of the ascending node, the argument of the perigee, and the mean anomaly, are defined. The content of this chapter will be used in, Chapters 3, 11, and 15.
