ABSTRACT

This chapter covers further graphics tools that can be used to create customized figures. Demonstrations of two additional ways of partitioning plotting windows are given, showing how to place multiple plots of different sizes and shapes in the same figure. Next included are brief pointers on using R's graphics parameter settings to manipulate plotted text and symbols, text families, font and colors, size, and scaling of plotted images. Uses of a collection of further useful low level plotting functions are demonstrated, and ways in which mathematical annotation can be plotted are provided. The chapter closes with a discussion on computing and interpreting four types of error bars, and an example of using ideas and techniques covered to construct a function to plot these for certain types of data.
