ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains a mathematical language for image analysis processes that is precise, compact, and matches well with modern scripting languages. Multiple scripting and programming languages exist that are suitable for image processing. One of the most popular languages is Python, which is also freely available. Python has evolved as several contributors provide useful libraries. The book presents a unified mathematical description for use in the field of image processing and image analysis. It explains the language to the Python scripting language, so that the conversions between description and execution are straightforward and effective. The book addresses presentations of image operators, image space manipulations, frequency space manipulations, texture and shape, image basis, and appendices contain tables and descriptions of the image operators.
