ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the basics of process architecture and how the concept helps to bridge gaps between technical and business resources and enables people take an enterprise-level approach to process improvement. An enterprise architecture is a high-level design of the entire business including its business processes. The chapter discusses the structure of the business processes, how they are coordinated with each other, and how technology supports them. Architecting the business processes entails looking at it through various perspectives or viewpoints. In the view-based approach, perspectives on business process and service interactions are used as central views, in which each of them represents a certain part of the processes and services. The core view is the place wherein the relationships among the views are maintained; hence, the relationships in the core view are needed for view integrations. Workflows are useful for the coordination of interrelated activities carried out by organization members in order to execute a business process.
