ABSTRACT

The chapter provides key insights into what a narrative designer or game writer needs in order to excel in a game development environment. It’s a combination of soft skills (like flexibility) and best practices (such as how to lead brainstorming sessions). Keeping copious documentation is always key as it gives various subject matter experts either the tools they need to excel at their own job or direct visibility into the progress of the story development. A story bible will be a key deliverable and must include an elevator pitch, character biographies, and visual structure. This chapter will provide insight into each of those components.

The chapter also prepares narrative designers and game writers to develop knowledge of certain software not only for writing, but for story mapping and presenting.
