ABSTRACT

The physical (PHY) sublayer is the bottom sublayer that is responsible for physical channels, transmissions, and receptions of Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Unit. Transport channels, at the MAC sublayer, are mapped to PHY channels at the PHY sublayer. Radio Resource Control sends dedicated or default radio configuration parameters to the PHY sublayer to be able to process transmissions and receptions on downlink (DL) and Uplink (UL) for anchor carrier or non-anchor carrier. Physical cell ID is the first parameter the User Equipment (UE) must obtain during a cell search in order to be able to decode or encode DL and UL PHY channels. UL and DL transmissions are separated in the frequency domain. The DL transmission scheme is based on conventional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing using a cyclic prefix. Uplink transmission scheme is based on a single-carrier frequency division multiple access.
