ABSTRACT

The network assigns the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters to the default Evolved packet system (EPS) bearer based on the User Equipment (UE) Universal Mobile Telecommunications System Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) subscription. USIM of the UE contains all QoS subscription information. Each QoS Class Identifier (QCI) value of an EPS bearer maps to a number of QoS characteristics. They are Resource Type, Priority and Packet Error Loss Rate. EPS bearer connects the UE to the Internet, applications, or other services through the Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway and PDN. It can additionally assign or modify the QoS parameters values to the EPS bearer. The default bearer has initial QoS parameters that are assigned by the network based on the UE subscription information stored in the Home Subscriber Server. The network defines two types of EPS bearers: Guaranteed Bit Rate and Non-Guaranteed Bit Rate bearers.
