In this Appendix the mathematical theory of compositional data analysis is summarized. In most cases matrix-vector algebra will be used, and the scalar versions will be given when necessary for clarification. No proofs are given of the results, and readers should refer to the bibliography in Appendix B for more detailed sources on theoretical aspects.
