ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a thorough explanation of the concepts for applying the Complex Systems Methodology complementary processes of integrating systems engineering and project management to a project. It focuses on the complementary stakeholder-focused processes of stakeholder engagement and communications management. The chapter explains common approaches to communications and provides processes to manage project risk and reduce technical risk. It explores the interacting processes of procurement and acquisitions and also provides a summary checklist of key chapter concepts to facilitate learning. The chapter introduces the stakeholder-focused processes or those processes that are driven by stakeholder engagement. High-quality communications form one of the most important success factors for projects. It is well-established that communications failures are common and lead directly to project failures. The more stakeholders and participants there are associated with a project, and the more diverse they are, the more challenging communications become.
