ABSTRACT

This chapter describes in depth the application of the Complex Systems Methodology’s unique systems engineering and project management processes to a project. It presents methods for elucidating requirements from stakeholders and explores the critical processes associated with interface management. The chapter explains the necessary processes to test, verify, and reduce technical risk and provides a case study to demonstrate the application of project management and systems engineering unique processes. It discusses the specific activities that are unique to scope management—in this case, those of the systems engineer within the technical scope management process area. Throughout the complementary processes of technical scope development, such as in the development of the functional and physical architectures, special attention must be placed on interface management. The unique processes associated with the application of cost management for a project falls under the responsibility of the project manager.
