ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the processes associated with implementing the Complex Systems Methodology so that application of the processes is put into context and the direct application steps of the processes within a project are clear. It provides the step-by-step processes to understand the environment in which the project will be implemented. The way that the organization is structured can have a real and profound impact on the ability of project management and systems engineering processes to drive performance in a project and the systems engineer’s ability to drive the project’s technical development. A project-aligned organization structure will support the project manager in obtaining all of the necessary resources, materials, and services needed to perform the scope of the project. An important consideration for implementing project management and systems engineering is in the organizational culture. The life cycle phase of the project is important in relation to the organization’s culture and structure if these are all not in phase and aligned.
