ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the development of an integrated approach, which aims at improvements and stable operations. The integrated approach is described by considering the data quality (DQ) approach, lean Six Sigma methods, and Taguchi methods developed by Genichi Taguchi for quality engineering. The chapter also discusses the importance of integrating data quality and process quality to achieve robust quality with different approaches. It explains how to measure robust quality by using the idea of robust quality index (RQI), which takes into account both process quality and DQ aspects. The chapter describes the approach at the metric level and then how it could be rolled up to the enterprise level. It looks at Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) approaches, Taguchi parameter design methods will play important roles in the Analyze, Improve, and Design phases. A typical parameter design approach has the following three stages: Defining stage, Planning stage and Execution stage.
