ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, verification is in reference to the apparatus. In this chapter, verification is in reference to the method. During a follow-up, the main emphasis is to ensure that the patient follows the instructions for the specific drill. The ability to maintain the benefits gained from ortho C by adhering to protocol demonstrates the standardization in the treatment.

In the medical profession as well as in optometry, only a few follow-ups are permitted free of charge. I decided to try something outrageous. What if I did not place a limit on the number of follow-ups? With that policy in mind, I found that even the most concerned participants would only visit me, on average, up to about eight times before they are comfortable. They would see me perhaps once every 2 weeks at first. Once they are satisfied that everything is according to expectation, then the schedule becomes a monthly or quarterly arrangement. Even then I would not charge them. It makes good business sense. They would often refer other participants to me. The goal is to enable the patients to become independent—to rely on you less. Once they reached that level, then you want them to rely on the lenses less. It involves a learning process and that is another reason to extend the follow-ups. You do not want to force them to become independent before they are ready.
