ABSTRACT

The mammalian diversity of South Asia, occurring in or reported from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is presented in this chapter. The mammals of South Asia are represented by 524 species belonging to 217 genera in 14 orders. The present checklist of mammals of South Asia is an updated list of known species from South Asia up to 31 March 2018. Each species entry includes its scientific name, authority, common name, and details of subspecies recognized in South Asia with country-level distribution. Recent taxonomic updates and nomenclatural changes have been incorporated.
