ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 discusses four miscellaneous tools for problem-solving that can be used by project managers and systems engineers. The Attribute Profile is an original tool that profiles a specific attribute of an object or a system by dividing the values of the attributes into a number of ranges and plotting a Histogram of the results. A budget is a tool for calculating a specific attribute, usually in the form of financial budget, and then maintaining the allocation of resources to that attribute throughout the project. Lessons Learned are a tool to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past, and Lists are a useful tool in themselves for identifying and tracking items as well as being the first step in the process of developing Causal Loops or Relationship Diagrams. The chapter concludes by discussing three different types of tables and matrices. Comparison tables contain information that allow a set of information for one item to be compared against the equivalent set of information for another item. Compliance matrices are tables that show how various parts of something comply with the instructions or requirements for that thing. Data tables contain information.
