ABSTRACT

Writing a patent requires different structures, aims, and languages than scientific publications. This chapter presents and discusses the key points that should be highlighted in writing a patent. As patents have financial purposes, it is important to clearly demonstrate your invention and its advantages. Inventors should describe their novelty and highlight the technological development of their invention. Special attention must be given to the claims, which are the heart of a patent. This chapter presents and discusses how to write each item of a patent application (i.e., title, inventors, abstract, claims, drawings, background of the invention, summary of the invention, brief description of the drawings, and detailed description of the embodiments (examples)), giving some advices and tips.
