ABSTRACT
Data analysis typically begins with the pursuit of answers to three fundamental questions. Seeking answers to these questions motivates three corresponding categories of visualizations.
Question: How are the data values for a variable patterned?
Question: Are two or more variables
Question: How do the values of one or more variables change over time?
This chapter introduces visualizations that answer each of these fundamental questions. More detail and more answers follow in subsequent chapters.
