ABSTRACT

A process generates its output over time. Examples include specific, well-structured processes such as filling each cereal box on the production line. A more general, complex process is a person growing from birth through adulthood, with output including such variables as height. Visualizing the process output over time contributes much to understanding the process output. Time-oriented visualizations include time as a variable. One possibility expresses time in units of time, such as calendar dates, or seconds. Alternatively, represent time as an ordered sequence, i.e. first, second, etc. without reference to the specific date or time of collection.
