ABSTRACT

The dream makes us think of the East as a possible rebirth, the desire for another place untouched by persecution. Matteo wishes for an existence free from Godzilla, from that which prevents him from getting a clear vision of his inner reality and practice. Reverie and dreams have the same apparent randomness and the same unconscious needs as the trajectory of the stones Dale Cooper throws at the bottle. The dream-like quality is particularly suited to depicting an underground life of turbid passions that contrasts with the gilded surface of a quaint town nestled in a natural paradise. A narrative derivative is a bit like the story of the unconscious waking dream, and likewise it is already organised by the dreamer, made consistent and self-interpreted. Night dreams trigger a sort of “α metafunction” or narrative ability of the mind in the dream and correspond to the work of re-dreaming images already stored in memory while awake.
