ABSTRACT

The rapid developments of information system (IS) as well as the changing of customers’ expectation and preferences have urged an organization to implement the business process reengineering (BPR). BPR not only refer to a change but also the drastic change which involves the elimination of redundant processes. In this study, it includes the historical background of BPR, the two well-known BPR’s methodologies, issues and factors involved during the implementation of BPR, the comparison of BPR’s implementation between public and private sectors, and finally, two case studies which describe the success and failure of the implementation of BPR. Most of the organizations are well aware of the changes needed to be made but do not know which areas need to be improved and how it should be done. As a result, process reengineering is a management concept that has been formed by trial and error method and the success stories of BPR have spawned an international interest and most organizations around the world have decided to conduct this reengineering into their current processes.
