Some projects have been already considered at the national

level triggering processes of experimentation. We can recall,

for example, the SPICE project for geoengineering (Stratospheric

Particle Injection for Climate Engineering project) funded by the

UK Research Councils in 2010. This project tried to develop a

democratic and legitimate framework for science and innovation

paving the way to ‘a broad anticipation, reflection and inclusive

deliberation, with the aim of making policy more responsive’ in

order to engage society in reflecting on purposes of geoengineering

while it develops (Stilgoe et al., 2013, p. 10). This made this project

an interesting case of RRI.1
