ABSTRACT

Up to this point we have discussed the free open and closed bosonic strings in the operator and Schrodinger representations and the interacting closed, oriented bosonic string partition function in the path integral representation. Applications of interacting strings to particle physics require the computation of string scattering amplitudes. We turn to this now, where we will continue to concentrate on the closed, oriented bosonic string theory in the critical dimension and stick to the sum-over-surfaces path integral representation developed in the previous two chapters.
