ABSTRACT
In our previous discussion of shadow scattering (Chapter 15) we used the results of a semiclassical method to evaluate the contribution of inelastic processes to the elastic scattering amplitude. We shall now examine this semiclassical method in detail. We shall also obtain the useful result that the Born approximation and the semiclassical method give the same formula for the inelastic cross section integrated over angles.
