ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Green’s function for the simplest situation involving a nonuniform dielectric constant, that of a body of uniform dielectric constant occupying the semi-infinite region. It also discusses Green's function for charge outside dielectric, geometry of semi-infinite dielectric region, derivations in terms of bound charge, the primary field and the secondary field contributing to the Green's function, Green’s function for charge within dielectric, and full Green’s function and image charge. To change all dielectric constants by a common constant factor, the potential—Green’s function—is only modified by the inverse of that factor.
