ABSTRACT
Gibbs called the equations (5.8)–(5.11) fundamental equations to emphasize that they express the connection between the characteristic functions and their variables and, therefore, give an exhaustive thermodynamic characteristic of the n-component mixture. The fundamental equations are equivalent to each other. Therefore, for a complete description of the thermodynamic properties of the mixture,it is necessary to have only one fundamental equation.
