ABSTRACT

Atmospheric air rushes into the vacuum system wherever it finds an access to enter as a result of the pressure difference. Such leaks are primarily due to the demountable and permanent joints not properly sealed. Leaks through gaskets or through brazed/welded joints are common in vacuum practice. Leak detection involves finding location of the leak and determining magnitude of the leak. This helps elimination of the leak by taking corrective actions in an effective manner so that the desired degree of vacuum can be achieved.
