ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the life cycle of a building in the following categories: the conceptual planning stage, the design development stage, the field operations stage, and the maintenance stage. The conceptual planning stage is the first stage in the life cycle of a building. The team formulation should take place at the beginning of the project. The shortlisting of contractors can be suggested, or a panel of contractors can be of great help because their experience and input can lead to great savings in cost. The design development stage is the second stage in the life cycle of a building. The development of design and procurement schedule is an important tool in managing the project. Field operations stage is the third stage in life cycle of a building. Usually, all the team members are involved in this stage of work and review meetings and inspections take place regularly.
