ABSTRACT

A 400 mL stirred batch cell experimental setup was used for the permeability experiments. This experimental setup included a pressure source to supply the pressure required for the filtration experiment; feed tank where the feed is collected; filtration cell; membrane piece; and permeate collector after membrane filtration. Compaction studies of each of the prepared membranes were done using deionized water for 2 h using a fixed pressure of 300 kPa, and pure water flux's were recorded with 10 min interval. To study the membranes porosity results, two parameters were applied, namely, equilibrium water content and membrane porosity. The ε plays a significant role in the permeability and rejection nature of the membrane. The average values of equilibrium water content and membrane porosity were taken after measuring five different samples to reduce the error of the balancing measurement. The hydrophilicity natures of all the prepared membranes were evaluated from the contact angle measurements.
