ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses an inclusive summary of the research on the fabricating of the electrospun hierarchically structured polymer fibers in the field of biomedical applications including tissue engineering, drug delivery process, and diagnostics. The research and development efforts have been focused toward drastic developments in selectivity while maintaining the inherent high throughput characteristics of membranes. Membrane bioreactors have been employed in the production of antibiotics, aminoacids, anti-inflammatories, anticancer drugs, optically pure enantiomers, vitamins, and isomers. The possible areas for the application of dermal therapy based on the drug-releasing matrices are the local distribution of vitamins or antioxidants such as skin care resolutions. Numerous applications of microfiltration and ultrafiltration in the biotechnology field have been reported. The electrospun fibers have been developed in the field of drug delivery, tissue engineering technology, disease diagnostics, and many other applications. The electrospun polymeric fibers can be widely used in different fields due to their high surface area, structural diversity, and adjustable porosity.
