ABSTRACT
Here we review the principles of the operation of twin-basin systems and outline the formulations required to simulate them. Following a demonstration of the concept in idealised scenarios that omit the influence of hydrodynamics, we compare a standard (or conventional) tidal power plant design against a twin-basin system in the Severn Estuary using the Thetis coastal ocean model.
