ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the importance of routine comprehensive medical laboratory testing, as well as regular at-home blood sugar level monitoring with a handheld glucometer, and arterial blood pressure monitoring with a conventional automated digital cuff device. In addition periodic urine pH and thyroid function (Barnes test) self-testing is also recommended. There are instructions for carrying out additional optional self-tests such as the Ankle/brachial Index (ABI) assessment that yields a measure of blood circulation in the extremities, as well as a saliva test for nitric oxide availability (NOx).
