ABSTRACT

Hormones in endocrine and metabolic disorders Hormones are chemical messengers that transmit information from one cell to another to coordinate growth, development, and reproduction in the body. They are synthesized in a limited number of tissues and secreted into the circulation, where they are transferred to a targeted tissue. Here they bind with receptor proteins that possess a recognition site, which binds hormones with high specificity, and an activity site, which translates the information received into a biochemical message.
