ABSTRACT

Dermatitis Dermatitis is not so much a disease as it is a symptom-an erythematous condition (redness) of the skin characterized by inflammation. It may result from various external or internal causative factors. Dermatitis may be acute or chronic. It is common to observe vesicles on a reddish base along with oozing (weeping) of fluid in acute dermatitis. In chronic dermatitis, the weeping subsides and the skin becomes dry and scaly with the appearance of fissures in the dermis. Secondary infections may occur as a consequence of pruritis-induced scratching.
