ABSTRACT
Biomedical engineering is not one discipline but several interacting disciplines that coexist under the same umbrella. Since a classic description of biomedical engineering is that it is the application of engineering analysis to problems in medicine and the life sciences, we all realize that ‘‘biomedical engineers’’ have widely differing backgrounds. In keeping with this fact, biomedical engineering programs usually offer several different tracks or concentrations that build on one or more engineering disciplines.
