ABSTRACT

The analysis of protein structural properties and features enables the generation of detailed models of the protein(s) tertiary structure(s). This knowledge describes the molecular aspects of the surface of proteins and their cavity properties such as size, shape, and charge. These features are important for the understanding of the overall functional properties of specific proteins that are key targets in drug discovery and other biotechnological applications. At a more basic level, structural information can be used to generate hypotheses for protein mechanism of action as well as biological function, to be verified in in vitro or in vivo, in biochemical and/or cell based assays.
