ABSTRACT
Small ruminants have been used in research for many years and, in contrast with species such as the dog, cat, and nonhuman primate, their use appears to be increasing. Published figures from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) show that 72,331 sheep were used in biomedical research,
teaching, and testing in 1996.
