ABSTRACT

The first point to be made about the housing of goats and sheep in a laboratory environment is that there is no one best way. Sheep and goats can adapt to a variety of housing situations, and when planning or designing housing for these animals it is important to keep in mind that they are social animals. A distinction must be made between housing small ruminants in a typical biomedical environment and housing them in an agricultural setting for food and fiber research. Guidelines exist for both environments and should be referred to for additional information.
