ABSTRACT

Assistive technology has been a part of our everyday lives for centuries. The earliest eye glasses were developed around the early 1300s. Since then, eye glasses and other assistive devices have been developed and evolved into more useful and more sophisticated technologies. Today, assistive technologies are designed to aid those with a host of disabilities ranging from visual impairments to learning disabilities; from hearing impairments to physical handicaps. Engineers from a variety of disciplines are continuously working together to develop new and better devices that will help to enhance the lives of impaired individuals by facilitating their participation in activities found in all aspects of modern life.
